Amish Vernon County is home to Wisconsin's largest Amish community. The Amish culture is based on traditional values and methods of production. They do not use electricity and often power their mills and machinery with steam and gas powered engines. Horse-drawn buggies are now a common sight on county roads, while teams of massive draft horses pull the plows and other implements in Amish fields. Most Amish farms offer items for sale. These items include their quilts, bent-hickory furniture, toys, hand-crafted buildings, maple syrup, candy and produce. They're happy to welcome you to their farms and shops, except on Sundays and most Thursdays. The also do not wish to have their pictures taken. Along with self guided bike tours, Down a County Road - Amish Tours offer group tours that will bring you personally to the understanding of their culture and their farms.
